About

Local Government Management Agency

The Irish Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) planned to deliver the 2014 local election results to the internet in multiple downloadable formats as part of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) initiative. However, due to budget and time constraints they decided to shelve the project.

5 days before the election, Ostia offered to prove their claim of 'data from anywhere, here now'!

We captured data, in real time (Ireland use a complex proportional representation voting system), from each of the 137 count centres, made it available on a constituency basis using:

  • Google Maps
  • Downloadable Feed Formats (XML, JSON, CSV)
  • Live Analytics based on the feeds
  • Automated Twitter Posts

The Result

The solution was up and running before the election and was glitch free. The downloadable feeds have been used by a number of independent organisations and continue to be actively used in the ongoing analysis of the election.

Technical Info

XML and JSON feeds are direct, live feeds provide by the Portus Platform. By default, all records are returned, but the results can be further filtered by providing name=value pairs on the URL.

For Example:

Please Note: A message such as "could not find a cache entry for the uri requested." indicates that this feed has not yet been published yet.
